My L-O-V-E Prediction

I'm sure you've all see it, MSN.com has a variety of articles that scroll through on their home page. Once in awhile they have various horoscopes. Now, I don't really get into all that stuff. I do read my horoscope weekly in the TV Guide but at the end of the week (for entertainment purposes only) and then I see if it "came true" and usually laugh at the predictions. Well, tonight they had an opportunity to view your love horoscope. I thought, "Why not? It's Friday night and I'm spending it home alone again. What could it hurt? Maybe I'll get a good laugh out of it." So I decided I'd see what they had to say for my love life (or lack thereof might be a better way to explain it, ah...so it goes sometimes....). Well, here's what the stars say about my love life, as of today:

"May 18, 2007
The current celestial energy encourages you not to put any limits on how good you think your love life can get. You may have done so in the past, based on what you feel you deserve, but the cosmic lineup right now is quite clearly saying that you deserve far more. You have every right to as much happiness as you can get. So go for it."

HA! We'll see about that. I'm sure it's good for nothing more than a great belly laugh. Thinking I deserve more and getting more are two totally different things. (Which might be part of the reason I'm home alone on a Friday night...I think I deserve better than just going out for the sake of going out and want to spend an evening with someone who interests me and isn't just a "free meal.") Guess I'll have to wait and see how it all plays out....[diabolical laughter and haunting theme music begins...]. I suppose someday I'll be able to tell myself, "I told you it'd all work out ok." (If I don't tell myself that, I'm sure someone out there will tell me instead.) Sadly, if history has a tendency to repeat itself, as I've heard it does, I won't be saying that for a long time. (But let's all keep praying I'm proven wrong on that account.)

The randomness of it all...

I HAVE to make this quick since it's late and I really need my sleep. I'm in the middle of an intensive 2-week phonetics course so my time is split between 3 hours/day in class, working part-time at a local high school as a teacher's aide and coming home and studying for several hours. I just thought I'd do a quick post with that update and so it doesn't seem quite so long since I last wrote. Bottom line-I'm alive, mostly well, busy and will get back to this probably in another week.

A few other random ideas:

-Why do people make promises they never intend to keep?
-Why, when you have absolutely no time, do you get a cold and feel wiped out?
-Why doesn't Utah use their left-turn arrow lights at more intersections?
-How come I always seem to post on my blog late at night?
-Why is it that since I decided to start blog I seem to have nothing to say?
-Why is it so fun to drive with the windows down & the radio blasting?
-What was I thinking taking this 2 week course?!
-Why did I let myself forget how fun it is to play volleyball, softball and other team sports?
-Why is it possible to have gray hair and zits?!
-Why do I not exercise regularly when I like the results, know the benefits and see a need?
-Why did I suddenly loose the sound on my computer?
-Why are there words that I always spell wrong, typed or written?
-How did we ever get along in life without cell phones, computers and the internet?

Hugs anyone?

Ever have one of those times when you just need a big hug? Not just any hug, mind you, but a big bear hug from a guy. One that when you’re in the hug you just know everything’s going to be ok, and that if tears start to fall, he’ll hold you tighter which reminds you that it really will be ok. It’s been that way for me for a long time. If only hugs from my Primary friends or girlfriends were enough but they just don’t quite cut it. (Sorry, though I wish they did. They do help in their own way.) If you have regular access to these types of hugs, please don’t take it for granted and be grateful for that blessing. Luckily, Heavenly Father generally makes up for this in His own way. Here’s hoping that having that regularly, and whenever need, is sooner rather than later.

The answers

I thought it would be fun to add the answers to my one liners so here goes:

"I'm from Minnesota, that's SOUTH of Neanderthal." (Cutting Edge)

"Sink Me!" (Scarlet Pimpernel, with Jane Seymour)

"To infinity and beyond!" (Toy Story)

"I don't think we're in Kansas any more." (The Wizard of Oz)

"Where did you put the electric blanket?" "Under the underwear." (White Christmas)

"I put Windex on it." (My Big Fat Greek Wedding)

"And, then I'd kick her, sir." (Anastasia)

"I was hoping it was you." (You've Got Mail)

"No one leaves without singing the blues." (Adventures in Babysitting)

"Indiana, that was the dog's name." (Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade)

"1.21 Gigawatts! 1.21 Gigawatts!?" (Back to the Future)

"Matty, it's Thriller!" (13 Going on 30)

"Try not to kill my dog" (Emma, with Gwyneth Paltrow)

"I washed my face and 'ands before I come..." (My Fair Lady)

"Girly Girl" (The Music Man)

"I don't want starburst or marble halls. I just want you." (Anne of Avonlea, Anne's final line at the very end)

Happy renting & viewing!

Now I've gone and done it!

I just finished filling out the application (and paying my application fee) to attend the University of Utah. With my recent job "change" I kept thinking and talking about going back to school for my masters. The more I thought about it, the more it felt right and I began to get excited about the prospects and possibilities. My application is now submitted so, once accepted, I can start on the year of prerequisites I need before I can apply to and attend graduate school.

About a year from now, I'll hopefully be receiving acceptances to grad schools and will start the decision of where to attend and any other relevant decisions that may follow.

As for work, my plan is to focus mostly on school so a part-time job will be sought after to give me some additional/extra funds to supplement any loan money paying for school. Hopefully the acceptance process will go quickly so that I'll know the hours I'm available to work. The next immediate step is the student loan process and I'll attack that tomorrow.

Oh, boy, I hope I'm not in over my head with this one. If so, I suppose it won't be the first time or, sadly, the last.

Unemployemnt

This is the life. I can sleep in. Stay in my pj's till noon everyday, even job hunt in my pj's. Chat on the phone with friends anytime. Surf the web all day if I want to. Catch up on my daytime tv. (I don't even know what's on tv in the daytime any more so I suppose this isn't really an option.) You might think my house would be spotless now that I'm home, nope it's not, I'm still ignoring the dishes really well. And, the money will eventually run out. My heat & ac have been on more since I'm home, so the bills might go up. My gas tank stays full longer though because I'm not going as many places. But I guess none of this is really being a responsible adult. In many regards I'm liking being home during the day but it does have it's down sides, no money is a big downside. That must mean that it's time for me to get moving on my next "life chapter."

I am thinking grad school. I spoke to the department director at the University of Utah yesterday about the program I think I want to study. I do have a year of prerequisites to complete and the GRE to take before even applying to the masters program. (Suggestions on where to find a good GRE prep class or book?) The soonest I could get into the program is Fall '08 which is fine. I do want to contact USU and BYU to get more information about their programs and then decide from there which school. USU is the cheapest between the 3 schools but it might require me to move to Logan or commute to Ogden. Not working (or working part-time) and school full-time is a big enough challenge right now, I'm not so sure that I want to add the stress of moving. The U's close (about 10 minutes away), I wouldn't be busy commuting or moving and could easily find a pt job in the SLC area. But theirs is the most expensive program and since tuition will be paid by student loans, the less I have to pay to the school, the more I have for living expenses and the more I have to eventually pay back.

Yesterday I looked for some part-time jobs on line and found a number I was interested in and many were decent hourly rates too! I know I need to look for a position somewhere but until I know where I'm going to school, and if I'm moving, I feel like I need to wait to apply for jobs. Maybe I'm just making excuses to keep avoiding the inevitable.

Don't misunderstand, I am excited about the graduate school option, worried too but mostly excited. Somehow it just feels like such a big change and I've gotten really comfortable where I am. (Probably too comfortable which would explain the sudden and drastic changes recently.) Man, 10 years ago I probably wouldn't have though twice about this opportunity and would jumped at the chance and said I thrive on change. Now, I'm way more cautious and unsure. More of a fuddy-duddy, I suppose. Sometimes I hate getting older.

Part of me just thinks I need to just jump off the deep end and go for it. I'm really not sure what's holding me back and wish I could figure it out so that I can get over it, make a decision and move on! Luckily, I think I'm really close to the point of final decisions and the next chapter.

Confessions of a lousy blogger

Ok, I'll admit it, maybe this blog idea wasn't so great after all. It seems like there's so many things I want to share & say but when I decide, "tonight I'm going to add to my blog." as you can see, it doesn't always happen. I guess my life really is busier than I thought it was, or else I can still procrastinate with the best of them.

As I'm sure you've all heard, I was downsized at work on Monday. (The first of 3 let go that day, thank you very much!) Maybe now I'll have more time to keep this better updated. [Insert laughter here...] That's ok, the main thing is that I keep at it, even if it's once in awhile. The less I blog, the less you all feel obligated to read so that frees up your time too. You're welcome. :)

Since Monday, I haven't made any major decision yet as to what's next. Many thoughts have been running through my mind but I decided to take this week to just let the dust settle, gather a little information and see where I feel guided to go next. Luckily, I feel very peaceful with this and am not in a panic, well, not yet anyway. I know that I'll figure something out which will hopefully be to my benefit & part of Heavenly Father's plan for me.

Just a warning to you though, this lay-off is a testimony to be careful what you pray for. For a little while I'd had the feeling that there was something Heavenly Father wanted for me to be doing but I wasn't sure where or what it was. So my prayers, a few days before all this and Monday morning, were to help me know what Father in Heaven wanted for me. I didn't think a 2x4 was necessary but that seems to be what I received. Someday I'll learn to be more cautious in what I ask for but obviously that's a lesson still in the works.

Thanks to everyone for keeping me in your thoughts & prayers at this time. It really does help and I'm sure that's much of what's brining me the peace I feel. Isn't knowing we have a Heavenly Father we can pray to and receive comfort and answers from the best thing ever?!
